Misha Zehra Abbas is a Pakistani-Saudi Arabian Artist and Designer, she portrays everyday life activities and living in the SWANA Region. Drawing from memory, observations, with study of Islamic traditions, objects and crafts. Her work is informed by her lived experiences and academic research. Themes of family, home, food and nature are core and foundational influences.
Her interdisciplinary practice with graphic and stylized visual language, takes form in paintings, drawings, textile crafts, clothing, and community engagements. This fluidity between mediums and making allows her to create connections and work that is complex and whole in its knowledge. Through diverse research methodologies, material experimentations and community involvement, her work challenges and unravels larger systemic constructs of race, gender and Muslim identity.
Abbas holds dual degrees from the California College of the Arts in San Francisco, California, a BFA in Fashion Design and a BFA in Community Arts.
